Here are some tips to get started!
AMTA Community Services Massage Team (CSMT) prepares and manages volunteer massage therapists for professional deployment to disaster sites in order to perform massage on first responders. The concept for a CSMT program started in 1989 following the California Loma Prieta Earthquake. During that disaster, more than 8,000 massages were given to disaster workers, demolition workers, grief counselors, highway patrol officers, and many others. Since that time, volunteer massage therapists have participated in numerous disaster responses.
Want to help when disaster strikes our state?
Join the Alabama team by attending the Responder Training Course. CSMT training is designed to prepare attendees to respond to an emergency deployment. We provide massage to emergency workers at Red Cross Relief Centers, National Guard units and other medical emergency relief agencies. This year we will also include training for a community service program during non-emergency times and to reach out to our community. There are numerous ways you can help our team. We would love to have more volunteers!
To find out more about AMTA-AL CSMT, please contact Liz Mawhinney and check the Events Page for upcoming CSMT Training.
